Who Knows You Well

She was drowning.
And nobody noticed…
Nobody—except her.

June 2022, World Championships in Budapest.
Anita Álvarez, a gifted American artistic swimmer of Mexican descent, was performing a breathtaking routine.

Every movement was perfect. Every second, graceful.
The audience cheered. The judges watched.
But when the performance ended, Anita didn’t come up for air.

She had lost consciousness.
Her body, weightless, began to sink… drifting down to the bottom of the pool.

The crowd clapped, unaware.
The judges looked on, unaware.
Everyone saw, but no one noticed.

Everyone, except her coach, Andrea Fuentes.

Andrea knew Anita. She knew her rhythm. She knew exactly how long it took for her to rise to the surface.
And when those seconds stretched too long, she didn’t hesitate.

Fully dressed. Shoes and all.
Andrea dove in, swam straight down, grabbed Anita, and pulled her back to life.

That day, Andrea didn’t just save an athlete; she saved a life.

And it left me asking myself, and maybe you too should reflect:
👉 Who knows you well enough to recognize when you’re not okay, even behind your smile?
👉 Who would dive in for you without waiting, when you no longer have the strength to surface?
👉 And equally important, whose life are you watching closely enough to notice when they’re sinking?

Because sometimes, people around us are clapping, laughing, living—yet silently drowning.
And what they need isn’t an audience…
They need someone who truly sees them.

This Suicide Prevention Month, let’s remember:
We all need at least one person who doesn’t just look at us—
but notices us.
Someone willing to dive in, no matter the cost.
And we are called to be that person for someone else.

💙 Be the one who notices.
💙 Be the one who dives in.
